Blog 6: Changes to my Study Programme

Imagen
Hi there! For this blog I’m going to write my opinion of the study programme I’m coursing (Sound Engineering), and what it needs to change to be better in my perspective. The curriculum is relatively new since it was renewed in 2015, it focuses on the intersection between science, art and technology, in that way it has many interesting courses and makes the programme very dynamic (e.g. somedays you study piano and music in the morning, and calculus and physics in the afternoon, and so the other way around). But this is not as good as you think, this focus involved put together many courses in every semester (at least 8 courses), so much so in first year we have 10 courses and in Mondays we had classes from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm with no much free times, only 15 min. between classes and 1 hour for lunch. Considering the technology focus the infrastructure needs a improvement, the labor field in sound engineering demands to professionals know how to handle newer gear which the university...

Blog 5: Mechoneo

Hi everyone! For this blog I’m going to share mi opinion, and my experience as well, about the “mechoneo”. This is an old Chilean tradition in the Universities of Chile and it’s the equivalent to a initiation ritual for those who enter to study. In consequence, the new students are called “mechones”. I think it has a good spirit, to introduce newer students to college life, but in the practice there are so many cases which ended bad, whit accidents and aggressions. In the newest and most well-known cases, there are 12 students who ended up with burns on their skin as a result of a mixture of chemicals in “Universidad Austral”, a student who died because she was hit by a train in Valparaiso, and a 7 month pregnant was attacked in Concepcion. Things like these motivate universities to ban these activities. In my personal experience, I was “mechoneado”. In my case it was really disgusting, we had to “swim” in a mini-pool full of garbage and then kiss a pig head. Next, they put ca...

Blog 4: My Future Job

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today i’m going to write about a future job I would like to have. Writing about this topic is a bit hard for me and now I’m going to explain why.      I am studying in the university since 2016 (for 5 years considering this year) and in the first 3 years I interested in the musical work related to sound engineering, I mean jobs like music producer, recording engineer, mix and master engineer, but I specially interested in live sound reinforce, which refers to do sound in live activities like concerts, conferences, festivals, theater plays, etc. So, I enter to Centro Cultural Espacio Elefante (CCEE), it’s a student organization which organize live activities in “artes centro” (campus Alfonso Letelier Llona) to learn about that job from older students.

Blog 3: Movies & Series

Hi everyone! For this blog I’m going to talk about a serie I watched recently, and I think everyone should see it, it’s “Down to earth” starring Zac Efron and Darin Olien.      It was released in Netflix this year on July 10, with Darin Olien also acting as executive producer. It’s an documentary series that deals with the journey of the protagonists through different parts of the world and focuses on themes of travel, life experience, nature, green energy and sustainable living practices.      I like it because it’s really interesting for its environmental and sustainable approach, with which they explore each city (or country) such as the free drinking water network and the "green walls" that are on the streets of London, or the geothermal energy system of Iceland, they even visit an eco-village that generates electricity and drinking water in a sustainable way in Costa Rica. Another aspect that I liked about the documentary was the ch...

Blog 2: My Best Concert Ever

Imagen
Hi everyone! For today’s blog, I’m going to write about my best concert ever. I love to going to concerts, I’ve been to several. But I’m sure the best one is the one from Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) in the Movistar Arena, Santiago de Chile, 2014. It’s a North American rock band formed in 1996, It was founded by vocalist and guitarrist Josh Homme after the dissolution of his previous band Kyuss, of which he preserves the musical style oriented to heavy rock and stoner rock. At that time QOTSA was my favorite band, it was the first time I saw them live, and the concert tour was to present the last album they released called “… Like Clockwork” which I loved, so when they announced the concert a year before I said to myself that I couldn't miss it. The concert lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes and it was amazing, they played so many good old songs like “No One Knows”, “Little Sister”, “Make it with Chu” and “Go with the Flow”. From the new album they played almost all the songs,...

Blog 1: Costa Rica

Imagen
Hi everyone! For the first blog of this semester I'm going to write about a country I’d like to visit, and that’s Costa Rica! It has a tropical climate characterized by high temperatures and abundant rainfall, which allows a wide variety of plants, animals, insects and birds. It is also of considerable historical and cultural interest due to its influences from South America, Spain and the Caribbean.  There are mainly 2 reasons why I am interested in going, one of them is the amount of fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants that grow in the territory, which allows a healthy and sustainable diet, and the production of natural medicines, which is very good. I love tropical fruits like mango, passion fruit, guava and coconut, and the plants that give them grow in Costa Rica. The other reason is related to my studies, the amount of biodiversity, especially birds, generates complex soundscapes in places furthest from cities, such as natural sanctuaries or protected parks. It has...
